چکیده
Bell’s Sparrows (Artemisiospiza belli) have only recently been recognized as distinct from Sagebrush (A. nevadensis), and the “Mojave” subspecies b. canescens) shares an overlapping wintering distribution with Sparrow in Mojave Sonoran deserts of southeastern California western Arizona. We lack understanding two species’ respective habitat preferences degree to which they interact or segregate on their grounds due difficulty separating them field previous classification one species. captured sampled 74 Artemisiospiza sparrows 5 sites across Arizona, supporting identifications genetic analyses mitochondrial DNA confirm species molecular sexing individuals. segregated into different types our study area, detected at four five sites. comprised 82% (n = 33) 5th site Robbins Butte. Broadly, were found more upland, well-drained locations that less vegetated xerophytic scrub. halophytic seablite (Suaeda nigra) saltbush (Atriplex) adjacent mesquite tamarisk woodlands. sex ratios significantly female-biased (binomial test: n 56, observed k 48 females, expected 28 females for assumed p 0.5, Pr [k < 8 > 48] 0.0001; 95% CI 0.369 – 0.631 0.5) Fort Mohave Butte, 2 where found. Our sex-ratios well-documented year-round presence near breeding suggest males employ migration strategies, a phenomenon not previously documented this taxon.

SPARROW is a stochastic local search (SLS) solver for SAT formulae in CNF format [2]. It was named after the mascot of the German city of Ulm. SPARROW2011 is a variant of SPARROW that was developed for the 2011 SAT competition. The core SPARROW2011 algorithm is identical to SPARROW; it has been re-implemented in UBCSAT [9] and a mechanism has been added to automatically select optimized paramet...

Instrumentalists rely on physical gestures such as plunking, bowing, hitting, and blowing air into their instruments in order to produce sound; among tremendous number of human gestures, the body movements employed by musical performers are limited. This compositional project began with the idea of extending the relationship between human gestures and sound by electronic means. From that germin...

—We began our studies of House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) biparental care in the mid-1990s by applying the classic Margaret Morse Nice field technique of color-banding individuals. Over the ensuing summers, we slowly accumulated quantitative provisioning records for 100 broods, even as we commenced a series of experimental manipulations. Provisioning data showed parental fitness, as expressed ...

I N the past several years I have kept eight Sparrow Hawks (F&o sparverius) in captivity for use in experiments in prey selection and the motivation for predatory behavior. Four of the birds were taken from nests at approximately two to three weeks of age and were hand-reared in my laboratory and four were trapped as free-flying birds. All birds were handled frequently and became quite tame. Th...
متن کاملNo evidence for observer effects on Lark Sparrow nest survival
Methods for monitoring bird nests might influence rates of nest predation, but the effects of various methods (e.g., visual markers and observer visitation rates) are often separately investigated among disparate avian taxa and geographic regions. Few investigators have explored the potential effects observers might have on nest success of grassland birds, despite concerns regarding population ...
